Curettage Stittsville

Gingival curettage is a surgical procedure intended to remove the soft tissue lining found within the periodontal pocket using a curet. This process leaves behind only a gingival connective tissue lining. Initially conceived to encourage new connective tissue attachment to the tooth by eliminating pocket lining and junctional epithelium, gingival curettage has been subject to scrutiny.

It's important to note that there is no substantial evidence supporting the therapeutic benefits of gingival curettage in the treatment of chronic periodontitis. Due to this lack of evidence, the American Dental Association has removed the code for gingival curettage from the fourth edition of Current Dental Terminology (CDT-4). Furthermore, the American Academy of Periodontology, in its Guidelines for Periodontal Therapy, does not include gingival curettage as a recommended method of treatment.

This indicates that the dental community, as a whole, does not consider gingival curettage as a clinically valuable procedure. If you have any concerns or questions regarding periodontal treatments or the health of your gums, it is advisable to consult with a qualified dental professional like Dr. Ilias Dzajkovski, Dr. Katerina Stanojevikj at Crossing Bridge Family Dentistry. We are here to provide you with the most up-to-date and effective dental care.
